Eden community waste prevention fund - grants available!
Cumbria County Council’s community waste prevention fund is a grant-giving scheme that supports the reduction of household waste whilst seeking to improve the quality of life for people living in Eden through community based projects. A total fund of £8,300 is available, and applications are invited for grants between £500 and £3000 for supporting projects to be delivered in Eden.
Applications for the Eden community waste prevention fund must be received by 30 September 2016.
The ultimate aim is to:
· Reduce the amount of waste produced in Eden by encouraging specific behaviours relating to the waste hierarchy of reduce, reuse and recycle and encouraging resourcefulness through repairing, refurbishing, repurposing, sharing, swapping and composting.
· Reduce the negative impact of waste on our society and environment by encouraging better management of waste and exemplifying new ways of dealing with waste as a resource.
· Enable residents and communities to get involved in environmental and waste related initiatives and support permanent changes in individual behaviours.
· Raise awareness of resource efficiency and educate people around resource efficient behaviours.
Applications are open for both new projects and to support existing worthwhile projects to continue or diversify. The council welcomes applications that demonstrate social value, positive behavioural change, and/or lead to the maximisation of household income.
We would like to see applications that use the fund to attract other funding opportunities, or to support or complement other resources from other public, private and voluntary organisations in supporting new waste prevention initiatives.
The council will not fund projects which will duplicate or would be in conflict with services already provided by Cumbrian waste collection or disposal authorities.
We will not fund running costs or projects that form part of the organisations’ normal ongoing activities unless this is due to expanding the group’s activities to engage in an eligible project.
