Cumbria confirms £82.6 million of government funding for flood repairs
Cumbria County Council can announce that, following close working with the Department for Transport, Cumbria has been awarded an additional £82.6 million to fund essential repairs following the storm damage of 2015/16 from Storms Desmond and Eva.
Commenting on the announcement, Cllr Stewart Young, Leader of Cumbria County Council said:
“This really is great news and this money will go a very long way to helping Cumbria rebuild its infrastructure following the floods. This money, together with the £39 million that Government have already allocated us, now gives Cumbria a total of just under £122million and we will use this money to rebuild our County making it stronger and more resilient for the future.”
“Keeping Cumbria moving is essential to local businesses in the area; a key part of doing this is being able to fund repairs to local transport infrastructure and provide expertise on the ground to repair roads like the A591. Helping communities recover from the devastating winter storms has been a Government priority and I’m delighted that the Chancellor was able to announce this additional package of support for Cumbria in his Budget.”
