Cumbria County Council launches summer adoption campaign

Cumbria County Council is set to launch its latest countywide campaign to encourage people considering adopting to take their first step.

The county council values the privacy of those who are considering adopting and has recently introduced new bookable appointments. These can be booked online now at cumbria.gov.uk/adoption. The appointments were introduced earlier this year and have had lots of interest, allowing people to meet privately with a member of the council’s supportive adoption team to find out more.

Councillor Anne Burns, Cabinet Member for Children and Family Services, said:

“We received valuable feedback from the public asking for more private ways to find out about adopting and the team have made this happen quickly.

“Our experienced team are always ready to talk to people who are considering adopting, they’re here to help and there are more ways than ever before to get in touch.

“I’d encourage people who are thinking about adopting a child to take that first step and contact us.”

Cumbria County Council welcomes adopters regardless of age, marital status, gender, sexuality, disability or employment status and in most cases the process takes 6-12 months.

Children who need adoptive families come from a variety of different backgrounds, many are under the age of 6, some need to live with their brothers or sisters and some have additional needs. What the children all have in common is that they have had unsettled experiences and need the love, care and security that an adoptive family can bring to their lives forever.

Appointment dates and more information about the children waiting, the process and the support available can be found at www.cumbria.gov.uk/adoption and on Facebook - search Fostering and Adoption with Cumbria County Council.
