Cumbria County Council will be carrying out essential road maintenance work at Grange-over-Sands in January 2021. The county council is investing approx. £300,000 in the works which will involve replacing worn-out sections of road with a brand new, hard-wearing surface on a 2km length of carriageway. These works will be carried out under a full road closure during the off-peak evening period from 6.30pm-1am to minimise disruption to road users. Resurfacing works are scheduled to start, subject to favourable weather conditions, on:
All dates are subject to change in the event of adverse weather. A signed diversion via the A590 and B5271 Windermere Road will operate during the temporary road closure and ‘business as usual’ signs will be in place. Access will be maintained for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists. In addition, access to properties will be maintained as far as possible but limited from time to time so members of the community are being asked to take account of resurfacing works and plan their journeys in advance. Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet member for Highways, said: “This essential road maintenance work will replace worn-out sections of road with a new, hard-wearing surface, making journeys smoother and safer for drivers. The road will need to be closed to enable our contractor to safely carry out resurfacing. To minimise disruption the resurfacing works have therefore been timed to take place in the evening when the road is less busy. We would ask drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys during this period.” |
