Revised proposals to change speed limits across Allerdale

Last year Cumbria County Council held a four week consultation during October and November 2018 to gather feedback and views on proposals to change a number of speed limits in Allerdale.

The speed limits in a variety of locations were assessed as a result of local residents concerns being reported to the council and Police, the ongoing and new building developments across the district, and other changes in the use of roads informed by traffic data.

The proposals have now been developed following the consultation exercise with the public and the revised documents are available to view via the county council website (search Allerdale speed limit review).

The proposals include:

  • Extension of 30mph restriction at Blencogo, Brigham, High Seaton (to accommodate new building developments)
  • Implement a 30mph restriction at Dean, Mawbray, Blindcrake
  • Implement a 40mph restriction at Thursby (West), Thursby (Curthwaite Road), Lowmoor Road (Wigton), Broughton Moor, Kirkbride, Oulton
  • Removal of a short section of 30mph restriction and implement national speed limit at Newton Arlosh, Flimby Brow, Allonby, Broughton Moor
  • Current temporary 40mph restriction to be made permanent - Thirlmere (A591)

The proposed changes follow comprehensive studies, and are intended to improve road safety whilst assisting in maintaining efficient traffic flow.

Members of the public can make formal representations by email or in writing before Friday 16 August.

If you wish to object to or comment upon the proposals you should email kim.baxter@cumbria.gov.uk  before Friday 16 August, marking your correspondence with reference KB/4.4.1017/15.001448.  Alternatively you may write to: Chief Legal Officer, Cumbria House, 117 Botchergate, Carlisle, CA1 1RD.
