Cumbria County Council is supporting United Utilities operation to restore water supply to the Eden Valley as quickly as possible in helping them to safely access Selside (along the A6) where the broken water pipe is located.
Due to the amount of machinery and heavy goods vehicle movements in the area, which could cause a significant risk to the travelling public, a joint decision has been made between the county council, Cumbria Police and Highways England to close the A6 from Junction 39 of the M6 to Kendal between 6pm tonight (Wednesday 12 February) and 6am on Thursday morning. Resident access will be maintained.
Cllr Keith Little, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport said:
“We would like to thank drivers for their patience whilst United Utilities carry out this essential work to restore water supplies in the area. I’d also like to thank the teams of highways officers and our colleagues across the emergency services and partner agencies for their tireless efforts to keep Cumbria moving during what has been a difficult few days following Storm Ciara.”
