Cumbria County Council shares insight into life as an apprentice
As part of its latest campaign to recruit 40 new apprentices, Cumbria County Council is sharing a series of videos to show what it’s like to be an apprentice at one of Cumbria’s biggest employers.
The videos feature apprentices from across the county who work in roles including residential care, highways maintenance, firefighting, project management and more, showing the diverse range of career opportunities available at the council.
Margaret Watson, Apprenticeship & School Development Manager, said:
“We are proud of all our apprentices and the determination and passion they bring into the county council is clear to see in their videos.
“Apprenticeships offer a fantastic opportunity for people to earn while they learn and the overwhelming majority of our apprentices go on to secure permanent employment with the council or move on to further training.

Neil Sarmiento, Highways Network Management Technician & Civil Engineering Apprentice, said:
“If you’re thinking about an apprenticeship at Cumbria County Council, go for it.
“I’ve been here for over 2 years and feel well supported, I’m learning on the job and picking up experience all the time.
“I’ve been given plenty of responsibility and already completed a number of rewarding schemes which are benefitting our communities.”
Ruby Bailey, Adult Care Worker Apprentice, said:
“I’m learning every day and every day is different. I love spending time with our residents and providing care. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”
At this year's North West Apprenticeship Awards the county council was recognised as the region’s top apprentice employer, with the Awards highlighting strengths in recruitment excellence, high quality training, diversity and career progression.
Cumbria County Council is recruiting apprentices now across a wide range of areas, including ICT, civil engineering, highways, project management, business administration, social care and more.
