Update for the A592 road improvements

Cumbria County Council are updating residents and businesses about the resurfacing works on the A592, which is part of the Department for Transport's (DfT's) 'Safer Roads Project'.

As a result of the heavy rain on 10 and 11 January, the planned resurfacing has not taken place.  The weather is currently looking favourably for tomorrow (13 January); therefore, our contractor Hanson are planning to start laying the last part of the road surfacing from Brackenrigg to Waterfoot Junction.

The resurfacing is currently planned to take place on Friday 13 January and Monday 16 January, then to carryout final verge reinstatement and white-lining on Tuesday 17 January, subject to favourable weather conditions.  This will complete Phase 4 of the project.

During this period the road will be closed with work taking place between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Outside of these working hours, access will be maintained where possible, but vehicles do so at their own risk.

Local businesses are open as usual during these works.

Hanson will then move onto the final section, Phase 5, Waterfoot Junction to Rheged.  Work will begin on Thursday 19 January until Tuesday 7 February, weather permitting.  During this period the road will be closed with work taking place between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.  Outside of the working hours, as stated above, access will be maintained where possible, but vehicles do so at their own risk.

For more information and to see the next phases, please visit the Safer Roads website.

If more information is needed, please email  A592@cumbria.gov.uk.

Cumbria County Council would like to thank the community and businesses for their continued support and patience while they improve the highway network. Please accept the county council’s apologies for any inconvenience caused by these improvements.
