Cumbria County Council are updating residents and businesses about essential resurfacing works on the A596 in Flimby, which are planned for mid-February.
The work will be carried out by Balfour Beatty, as the Operating and Maintenance contractor for Connect Roads, the concession company responsible for the A596 on behalf of Cumbria County Council.
The essential surfacing works on the A596 Flimby, will commence on Sunday 19 February under night-time road closures, which will be closed from 7.00pm to 6.00am for five consecutive nights. The road will then be closed again from Sunday 26 February for an additional five consecutive nights with a programmed completion date of Saturday 4 March, weather permitting.
Due to the nature of the works, and to progress safely for the public and the workforce, the works will be undertaken under a full road closure, each evening; however, the following diversion routes will be in place:
A596 Southbound vehicles - from Flimby, travel north along the A596 for 2.5km to its junction with the A594 at Netherhall Corner, Maryport; turn right onto the A594 for 9.4km to its junction with the A595 at Belle Vue Roundabout.
Take the third exit on the A595 for 1.4km to its junction with the A66 Fitz Roundabout. Take the third exit on the A66 for 5.75km to its junction with the A595 Chapel Brow Roundabout.
Take the second exit on the A66 from Stanbeck Roundabout for 4.0km, take the first exit on Ramsay Brow for 0.8Km to the junction with A596 and turn right onto Bridge Street for 1.6km to the junction with Northside Roundabout, then take the second exit on the A596 for 2.1km, and follow it to Lowca Lane, where the closure ends.
A596 Northbound vehicles - Travel in the reverse direction of the above, taking the appropriate exits off the roundabouts.
It is likely that activities on the works site will delay access to properties, so householders will need to wait until it is safe to be escorted through the area.

“In order to minimise disruption to the community, we will be working on the roads during the night for five consecutive nights starting on Sunday 19 February, and then for five more consecutive nights beginning on Sunday 26 February.
"I would like to thank the Flimby community, and businesses, in advance, for their support and patience while we improve the road network.”
