Cumbrian safeguarding agencies support National Adult Safeguarding Week
Safeguarding agencies across Cumbria will be supporting a national campaign designed to raise awareness of the services available to vulnerable adults.
National Adult Safeguarding Week takes place between 15 and 21 November. Cumbria Safeguarding Adults Board will be supporting the Ann Craft Trust in raising awareness of services available to those suffering from abuse or neglect.
The theme for Safeguarding Adults Week 2021 is ‘Creating Safer Cultures’.
Jeanette McDiarmid, the independent chair of Cumbria Safeguarding Adults Board, said: “Safeguarding Adults Week is a time for everyone to come together to raise awareness of the importance of understanding safeguarding issues, and the need to start vital conversations to help keep people safe.
“This year’s theme of ‘safer cultures’ is all about how organisations and individuals can take steps to recognise harm happening in the first instance and understand how to raise concerns. We also want organisations to make sure the right policies and procedures are in place so that any safeguarding concerns are recognised and responded to effectively.
“We hope the information we share during the week will enable more organisations and individuals to feel confident in recognising the signs of abuse and neglect, and reporting any concerns they may have.
“It is only by Cumbrian communities working closely together that we can reduce the risk of harm to vulnerable adults.”
The board regularly circulates newsletters by email, which focus on specific safeguarding topics, and throughout the week will be issuing daily ‘five-minute briefings’ providing advice on a range of different topics which will include:
- Emotional abuse and safeguarding mental health
- The power of language
- Digital safeguarding
- Adult grooming
