Eden Local Committee award funding to help young people

Members of Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Eden met on Friday 23 September 2022 for their public meeting, which took place at The LEP Offices, Redhills, Penrith.

The Area Managers report to the Committee highlighted the recent activities of Eden Local Committee’s Children and Young People’s Working Group, which included a grant recommendation to a local charity ‘Euphoric Circus’ that delivers training sessions for young people to promote the development of physical literacy through circus skills and performing arts. The group were awarded £2056 as a contribution to delivering training sessions for young people in Eden.

In addition, members supported a funding award of £4000 from the Eden 11-19 Universal Youth Provision Fund to Cumbria Youth Alliance. The funds will be used to deliver a six-month development project which aims to create a community led youth club for young people in Alston.

Members of Eden Local Committee also supported a proposal to award a grant of £5000 to the Eden Youth Hub Year Two Project. The DWP Partnership initiative opened in October 2021 to support Eden’s inactive 16-24-year-olds and help them overcome barriers to employment. The project has had a significant positive impact on Eden’s youth employment during its first year.

Cllr Phil Dew, Chair of Eden Local Committee said “We are really pleased to see our funding streams support so many different areas of the community, and in particular create opportunities for our young people to reach their potential. Our 0-19 fund is open year-round, applications are considered from projects which aim to create benefit for young people in Eden.”
