Flood alleviation project in Holme, Kendal to resume

Cumbria County Council are updating residents and businesses that the flood alleviation project on North Road, Holme (near Kendal) will be resuming.

The work will resume on Monday 20 February for a period of approximately 16 weeks.

The scope of the work continues with the implementation of a new drainage system from Hillside to North Road.

To complete the work, traffic management and the closure of North Road will be required; however, our contractor, JN Bentley Ltd, will be doing their utmost to minimise disruption by closing parts of North Road in short sections and allowing normal access wherever possible throughout the closure period.

If residents or businesses in the area have any questions, they are advised to liaise with the site staff or contact the Highways Hotline at 0300 303 2992.

Cumbria County Council would like to thank the community for their continued support and patience while these flood alleviation improvements are made and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:

“We do apologise for any inconvenience and disruption that these works may have on the local community; however, these works are necessary in order to address the flood issues in Holme.

“This flood alleviation work is essential to provide the best protection for our communities, and to avoid the devastation that flooding can bring to people’s lives, their homes, and their families.

“We would like to thank the local community for their patience and support whilst these works are scheduled, our contractor JN Bentley Ltd

, and all involved in the various projects around Cumbria to ensure communities are confident in having the best protection against flood-risk possible.”
