Local community feedback secures reduced speed limit in Bothel

As a result of community feedback, Cumbria County Council can confirm that the speed limit on the A595 at Bothel has now been reduced to 50mph.

Cumbria County Council has been developing the strategic improvement plans for the A595 within the vicinity of Bothel for a number of years, and has been consulting residents, stakeholders and the community, encouraging feedback for future developments of this area.

During the consultation, the local community highlighted that there was a need for a speed reduction on the A595 in the vicinity of the village of Bothel. After further consultation regarding the speed limit, proposal for a 50mph limit on the A595 at Bothel, was sent to Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee, who have agreed to implement this.

Works to install the 50mph speed limit have now been completed and welcomed by the local community.

Cllr Tony Markley, Chair for County Council Local Committee for Allerdale, said:

"This is really good news for the people in the Bothel area, they raised concerns about the high speed of traffic, and we were able to reduce the speed limit to 50mph, which has now been implemented.  This does demonstrate that if people take the time to get involved with consultations, that their input and feedback can have a very positive outcome for future developments."
