Cumbria County Council are asking for feedback and input on how cycling and walking provisions can be improved in Barrow-in-Furness, Carlisle and Kendal.
The consultation on proposals set out in Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs), is open until Friday 26 November. For more information and to complete a short online survey, please go here: www.cumbria.gov.uk/planning-environment/cyclingandwalking/.
Cumbria County Council, in partnership with Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and Cumbria’s six district councils, would like to receive further input from residents and businesses to ensure that the LCWIPs are the best they can be. Demonstrating local support for the proposals is particularly important when opportunities arise to apply for funding to deliver the infrastructure improvements.
This final consultation will help identify and prioritise the improvements that are needed to enable everyone to feel confident they can walk or cycle to work, school, community hubs and other areas in each city/town. The ability to demonstrate support for the proposals will assist with the funding applications, which, if successful, will help shape the future for cyclists and pedestrians across the county over the next ten years.
Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:
“This is an exciting time for residents, business, and the community to have their say on their future cycle and walking routes. This consultation will help identify and prioritise the improvements that are needed to enable everyone to feel confident they can walk or cycle to work, school, community hubs and other areas in each city/town and will allow us to apply to the Department of Transport for funding."
"If the funding is successful, this will help support our efforts to increase active travel in Cumbria and in turn reduce the number of car journeys.”
