Reminder to have your say on improving Cumbria’s transport network

Cumbria County Council is reminding people to give their views and feedback on the Cumbria Transport Infrastructure Plan (CTIP) 2022 - 2037 through an online survey which closes on Monday 25 October.

The CTIP has been developed by Cumbria County Council and Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) and sets out the policy framework for the role of transport and connectivity in supporting sustainable and inclusive growth in Cumbria.

The plan provides a vision for improving transport and infrastructure in Cumbria that provides for the needs of residents, businesses and visitors, as well as respecting our natural environment. The plan also details how Cumbria can support the ongoing recovery from the Covid pandemic and respond to the challenges of climate change.

The objectives of the CTIP are:

  1. Clean and Healthy Cumbria - Promoting the role of active travel and digital infrastructure as enablers of inclusive economic growth and in supporting the health and well-being of our communities and the decarbonisation of transport networks
  2. Connected Cumbria - Promoting improved transport networks across and into Cumbria to connect our places and support economic growth and opportunities for businesses and communities.
  3. Community Cumbria - Promoting integrated approaches to transport, supporting opportunity and renewal within towns and communities across Cumbria with better transport used to improve social inclusion.

Cllr Keith Little, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:

“The CTIP sets out the key objectives for improving travel across the county, and I’d urge anybody who uses our transport network to spend some time providing their feedback and views.

“Delivering a CTIP that is informed by and meets the needs of local people and businesses will help unlock the economic potential of the county to new businesses and employers, and in turn benefits our local communities.”

Jo Lappin, Chief Executive of Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership said:

“The Transport and Infrastructure Plan is a really important document for Cumbria, given that connectivity is essential to our businesses, people and communities.

“The CTIP is looking to address both the ‘here and now’ issues and to future proof connectivity in a way that makes sure that the county’s economy and businesses operate efficiently and effectively and at the same time we address transport decarbonisation. I would really encourage all of our businesses to get involved in this important consultation.”

The survey can be accessed via the Cumbria Citizen Space Consultation Hub - https://cumbria.citizenspace.com/

The CTIP draft document is available to view or download from the introduction page so that respondents can study the detail before completing the survey.
