Cumbria County Council is informing residents of their resurfacing plans on the A592 between Deepdale and Rheged, which will start w/c Monday 5 September. The road surfacing plans are part of the Department for Transport’s (DfT’s) ‘Safer Roads Project’, and works will include resurfacing sections on the A592 between Deepdale and Rheged, as well as some specific footways and refreshing kerbing. As a result of the work and equipment needed, road closures will be required, therefore, to minimise disruption, the works will be phased into five stages. The road will be closed between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Outside of the working hours access will be maintained where possible, but vehicles do so at their own risk. Please visit the Safer Roads website found here: Safer roads - A592 | Cumbria County Council Alpha, to see a full list of the phases and a map of the diversion routes. It is anticipated that these works will be complete by the end of December 2022. There will be a public information drop-in session at Glenridding Village Hall on Thursday 1 September from 3pm to 7pm to provide further information about this project. Council officers will be available to answer questions and provide maps of the road works and closures. The county council will make every effort to maintain access for residents. However, this may not be possible due to the narrowness of the road combined with the cooling times of the materials. As a result, it may be necessary to delay, or at times, deny access to properties, depending on the location of the work operations. Therefore, the county council are asking residents that any vehicles should be left outside of the works area. Emergency and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, and the Contractor, Hansons, will be on site advising on ongoing activities on a daily basis. Access will be available for school buses as needed. Cumbria County Council apologises in advance for any disruption that this work will cause and would like to thank residents, businesses, and visitors for their patience while improvements to road safety are made. Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “It is very important that we make the improvements not only for car users, but for people who walk, ride horses and cycle too. The DfT and Cumbria County Council are committed to reduce road casualties and fatalities by making the roads safer for all users. “Our priority is public safety, and I am pleased that we are making these improvements proactively on the A592. These road improvements are necessary for safety, so that residents and tourists can enjoy everything that Cumbria has to offer and feel safe while doing so.” Please email A592@cumbria.gov.uk with any questions or queries relating to the project.
