Multi-agency teams and volunteers are continuing door knocking on homes across areas still affected by power outages today. Teams will be checking on residents’ safety and welfare, providing advice and support if required.
They are especially targeting home visits to people known to agencies as potentially vulnerable or have requested support and are also calling in on around 700 residents living in the Cartmel and High Newton (Grange-over-Sands) areas today.
The work is part of the effort to ensure public safety and will be co-ordinated by local Operational Control Groups working out of Kendal Fire Station and the Ulverston Blue Light Hub.
Alongside this, the British Red Cross and other multi-agency partners are working with Electricity North West to telephone all customers that still are without power.
As of this afternoon around 2,000 homes in Cumbria remain without electricity. Good progress is being made to restore power with teams from Electricity North West working around the clock. It is expected that this number will drop further by the end of the day, but some properties could remain without power until tomorrow evening.
The public are reminded to contact www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it or call 101 if they have concerns about their own safety and well-being, or the safety and well-being of someone they know. If there is an immediate risk to life people should call 999.
Cumbria Police have stepped up their usual patrol response following the storm.
As we approach the weekend, visitors and residents are reminded that many Rights of Way have been affected by damaged trees and this is still being assessed. People are asked to take extra care around trees and comply with route guidance and local signage.
If anyone sees any electricity lines down, please stay well away and call Electricity North West immediately on 105.
Grizedale Forest is closed until further notice due to significant damage from Storm Arwen and people are asked not to travel there.
