The Summer Holidays are a blast for the county’s children and young people

The summer holidays are well underway and children and young people across the county have been taking part in a range of exciting activities as part of Cumbria’s Summer Holiday Activity Programme.

From football camps to firefighter experiences; from canoeing to crafts; from Multi-sports to meeting animals, a huge range of activities are underway to suit all interests and ages from 5 to 18 years.

With only a few weeks left of the summer holidays, places have been filling fast.  However, places are still available and Cumbrian families are being reminded - it's not too late to book and join in the fun!  Families are encouraged to visit www.cumbria.gov.uk/holidaysto check availability and book activities for the last few weeks of August.

With places funded by the Government’s Holiday Activity and Food Programme, all the activities are free for families whose children receive benefits-related free school meals. Over half of the activities also have paid-for places available to all children and young people.

Councillor Deborah Earl, Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Health, said:

“It is fantastic to see our county’s children and young people enjoying themselves and having so much fun across so many different kinds of activities.  After such a difficult 18 months caused by covid, the Holiday Activity Programme is a welcome opportunity for so many families - to get active, try new activities and most importantly, have fun!

“The fact that that the programme is able to provide free places to low income families means we’ve been able to provide support where it’s needed the most and no-one is left behind.”

Cath Clarke, Holiday Activity Coordinator for the Holiday Activity Programme said:
“We have three more weeks of amazing activities to choose from and it’s not too late to book.  But be quick to avoid disappointment!

"We also have online activities for the days when the weather is bad or if families are isolating through our partnership with Rocket Launch - and it's free for all families in Cumbria.  Any families interested should visit our
www.cumbria.gov.uk/holidays homepage."

The Cumbria Holiday Activity Programme is funded by the Department for Education's Holiday Activities and Food Programme 2021 and administered by Cumbria County Council working with Cumbria Youth Alliance.
