Following on from the successful consultation in May 2021, where Cumbria County Council asked for views on how cycling and walking provisions can be improved in Barrow-in-Furness, Carlisle and Kendal, the County Council are now seeking additional feedback on proposals.
The consultation, which asks for views and feedback on proposals set out in Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs), is open until Friday 26 November. For more information and to complete a short online survey, please go here: www.cumbria.gov.uk/planning-environment/cyclingandwalking/.
Cumbria County Council, in partnership with Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and Cumbria’s six district councils, would like to receive further input from residents and businesses to ensure that the LCWIPs are the best they can be. Demonstrating local support for the proposals is particularly important when opportunities arise to apply for funding to deliver the infrastructure improvements.
In addition, the County Council have organised drop in events, where officers will be on hand to help answer queries about this consultation:
Carlisle: -Thursday 18 November between 12pm and 5.30pm, at Carlisle Library, 11 Globe Lane, Carlisle, CA3 8NX.
Kendal - Monday 22 November between 12.30pm and 6.30pm, at Kendal Town Hall, Highgate, Kendal, LA9 4DL.
Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:
“This is an exciting time for residents, business, and the community to have their say on their future cycle and walking routes. This second round of consultation will help identify and prioritise the improvements that are needed to enable everyone to feel confident they can walk or cycle to work, school, community hubs and other areas in each city/town."
"All feedback will assist with the funding applications, which, if successful, will help support our efforts to increase active travel in Cumbria and in turn reduce the number of car journeys."
"You can go to our website to complete the consultation, or pop to one of our drop-in sessions at Carlisle Library on Thursday 18 November, or Kendal Town Hall on Monday 22 November. We are grateful to everyone who turned up to the Barrow drop in event last Friday. All feedback that is given will help us to understand what is wanted in these areas and make the appropriate improvements."
