Update - A592 road improvements Phase 5, Waterfoot Junction to Rheged

Cumbria County Council are updating residents and businesses about Phase 5 of the resurfacing works on the A592, which is part of the Department for Transport's (DfT's) 'Safer Roads Project'.

Phases 1- 4 have already been successfully completed, which has included resurfacing of the roads and some footways along with renewing some of the kerbing.

Phase 5 is scheduled to begin Monday 23 January until Friday 3 February, weather permitting, this will be completed in three sections; Section 1: Dacre Junction to Waterfoot Junction, Section 2: Rheged End to Dalemain Junction, Section 3: Dalemain to Dacre Junction.

During this period the road will be closed with work taking place between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.  Outside of the working hours, access will be maintained where possible, but vehicles do so at their own risk.

As there will be a full road closure, the diversion routes are as follows:

NORTHBOUND  - Travelling via the A5091 through Dockray and onto the A66

SOUTHBOUND - Travelling via the A66 and onto the A5901 through Dockray before re-joining the A592

During these works, local businesses will be open as usual, but residents and visitors are advised to plan their journeys ahead, as extra time may be needed to get to their destinations.

For more information and to see the next phases, please visit the Safer Roads website.

If more information is needed, please email  A592@cumbria.gov.uk.

Cumbria County Council would like to thank the community and businesses for their continued support and patience while they improve the highway network. Please accept the county council’s apologies for any inconvenience caused by these improvements.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:

“We would like to thank all the residents, businesses, visitors and commuters, who have been very patient and supportive during Phases 1 - 4  work on the A592.

“As we near completion on this section of the A592, it is great news that these improvements will prevent future deterioration, as well as make the road easier and safer for all users.

“We anticipate starting Phase 5 on Monday 23 January, weather permitting, and completing it on Friday 3 February. This Phase is between Waterfoot Junction and Rheged, and local businesses will remain open during this time. We would like to encourage the public to support these local businesses if they can”.
