Update on the drainage improvement works on A592

Cumbria County Council will commence the long-awaited drainage improvement works on the A592, in the coming weeks.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the work has been delayed by a couple of weeks. Along the route between Rheged and Kirkstone Pass, various sections of highway drainage and culverts will be replaced and upgraded.

The completion of drainage works will allow resurfacing work to begin in September, providing more resilience to the roads.

As part of this work, there will be a traffic management system in place, which will aim to minimise disruption, but some delays will be inevitable.

A traffic light system will eliminate the need for a full road closure and lengthy diversions, allowing construction to take place between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

The work will increase the road's resilience before the winter season when severe weather can impact residents and tourists as well as causing damage to the A592.

Survey work on the Kirkstone Pass area is still ongoing and are likely to last at least another week.

The county council apologises in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause, and thanks local residents, businesses, and visitors for their patience and support as improvements to road safety are made.
