Update on the resurfacing program in Barrow and South Lakeland

In total, Cumbria County Council is investing £4.56 million in its resurfacing projects across Cumbria, including £1.44 million in South Lakeland and £360,000 in Barrow.

This Friday (6 May), from approximately 8am to 12pm (or early afternoon) the A5087 (Coast Road between Ulverston and Barrow) will be closed between Aldingham and the Barrow Boundary (Rampside Roundabout).  The diversion route is via Ulverston and Barrow (please see the attached map). Once the works are underway, access cannot be provided.

Surface dressing extends the life of roads by sealing the surface and delaying the development of potholes. Additionally, it strengthens the resistance of the road to freezing and thawing and helps waterproof structural layers.

Due to the size of the project, there will be some delays, and the county council recommends that people plan their route before setting off. Workers will do everything they can to minimize disruption.

The council thanks the public for their patience and understanding while the work is being completed. As with all road works, they are subject to weather conditions.

You can find more information on our website at Road surface dressing programme | Cumbria County Council (hyperlink), and we will provide regular updates to our social media pages @CumbriaHighways on Twitter and CumbriaCC on Facebook.
