Workington community invited to celebrate Allerdale Local Committee’s £12,500 investment into new Children’s Library

Everyone in the Allerdale community is invited to a free opening event to celebrate Allerdale Local Committee’s £12,500 investment into the new Children’s library.

The event is to be held in Workington Library at Vulcans Lane on Friday 8 October 2021 and it will mark the official opening of the newly refurbished Children’s Library funded by Allerdale Local Committee members. Everyone is invited to come along; there will be activities and learning sessions for the whole family.

The newly refurbished Children’s library now includes a story wall, soft and sensory seating areas, children’s computers, a tiny tablet, blackboard wall and a selection of new books as well as autism resources.

Activities will run from 11am - 4.45pm and will include Jungle Explorers, a special interactive story time with singing, games and lots of roaring fun for those aged 0 - 5. For primary aged children, there will be an hour of fun and learning for all the family with Cumbria County Council Community Learning and Skills, based around spies, code-breaking and invisible ink.

For more information, contact Workington Library on 01900 706170 or email Workington.Library@cumbria.gov.uk

Cllr Alan Barry, Chair of Allerdale Local Committee, said;

‘’On behalf of Allerdale Local Committee, we are so pleased we have been able to provide the funding to redesign the Children’s Library in Workington to make it an enjoyable place for little ones and their families and a safe environment for young people. This fantastic new space is a wonderful community asset for all, including families with children with disabilities, autism or other additional needs. I can’t wait for members of the community to see the incredible changes.’’
