Works to improve footpath in Kendal complete
Works to improve the surface of a footpath linking Hallgarth and Briarigg housing estates in Kendal have now been completed.
As part of Cumbria County Council’s Environment Fund, a new surface has been laid and metal barriers removed to provide an all-year round surface on the path, making this popular and much used footpath more accessible and safer for residents, as well as children going to St Thomas’ Primary School.
The scheme is part of a wider programme of improvements being carried out on Cumbria’s highways.
Over the last year, thanks to £1.2m of funding from the County Council’s Environment Fund, each of the council’s six local committees has been working with district, town and parish councils to deliver vital environmental improvements to its communities.
Works undertaken as part of the Environment Fund include verge maintenance and biodiversity improvements, tree maintenance and replacement, and footpath improvements.
Councillor Nick Cotton, Chair of South Lakeland Local Committee, said:
“I’m delighted that as a local committee we have been able to support improvements such as this. Thanks to the Council’s Environment Fund, we have been able to respond to community requests and enhance the safety and accessibility of a well-used pathway.”
Councillor Peter Thornton, Deputy Leader of Cumbria County Council and Member of South Lakeland Local Committee, added:
“It is fantastic to see what a difference the Environment Fund is having in our communities. Local residents are very pleased with the work undertaken and that they can now use this path without having to tread through mud. I would like to thank our officers who have helped make this happen.”
